In Search of Truth

💭💭💭💭💭

-->
Is There a Future For Truth?

Another day dances around me
skirt swirls but reveals little,
a tango with trouble
while hip-hop artists
settle on the side
composing countermeasures
in rap words insufficient
to conjure change
rescind dangerous elements;

always the way—the bards sing
truth but the world hears dissonance,
misses the message
shrugs off harmonious resolve
blinded instead by glam & glitter
of ominous forces
whose words rasp toxic
like a cheese grater on the brain
dismantling too many
of their final connections
to empathy, compassion, respect

tone-deaf now to truth
they hear lies as reality
a song without chords, a drone
from the dark side of everything
including this day
now dancing into the shadows
bereft of confidence, no guarantees
her dance numbers allowed
more rounds in sunlight.

Dragons and Dreams

Dragons and Dreams, kids have both. Then, again, so do I, having never outgrown the pleasure of living an alternate life between lights out and sunrise.

night shadows

dragons
dance on night walls
swift runners, fire breathers
reach wings toward me, come daylight they
escape

What dreams come your way? Do you believe them messengers and guides regarding your current life, maybe your future? Or do you, like me, wake looking for feathers on your pillow, scratches on your arms, your face covered in the remnants of the meal being consumed at the moment of reentry?

Blueberries and more

Blueberry

Beautiful beginnings,
bountiful buds,
brilliant blossoms,

bumblebees birth
bright blue berry bunches,
“blue-licious” blueberry bushes,

beautiful!

** ** **

I grew up with the luxury of blueberries fresh-picked from backyard bushes lovingly tended by my father and mother. Of course, I took them for granted and didn’t appreciate the intense flavor treat each bite birthed in my mouth until I left home and walked into the artificial equivalent found in grocery stores.

Try though they may, even the organic, local foods only stores get shipments that are not the same as fresh picked and eaten at prime ripeness. It wasn’t until I landed in Oregon some ten years later that my taste buds were reunited with the pleasures of juicy blueberries. Here I could go to U-pick farms and gather buckets of them for freezing and eating. When I moved into a home where ten mature blueberry bushes lined one edge of the backyard, I was in heaven.

The bushes need so little attention and the harvest was bountiful enough to share with neighbors, co-workers, and the resident deer, and still have more than enough to satiate my love of this little blue berry.

I’ve once again moved and no longer experience the ever-present fresh berries, but I know where to find them and no longer take them for granted.
